When I took over the track I had received many calls and emails concerning Tech. I am happy to announce that the Tech division under the direction of Ed Crilly is now open. Last week we were allowing some things to squeak through in some classes and some others in the Mini Stock class to use equipment which was a breach of the rules. All of those racers have been told what was wrong and must be changed for this week.
Due to many years of neglect in Tech for the mini stock class we will allow some gray areas to exist for 2011. New rules for 2012 are being worked upon now so we can bring some control back into this class. We expect to have them completed by seasons end.
For all other classes, rules will be strictly enforced to make it fair for all racers. This is the only warning that will be given. Please note that there is no allowable percentage of error, or 1/8 here or there, or a pound here or there. Please adjust your scales at home to reflect the ones at the track. The scales at the track are the ones we are going to use. If you scales show a different number then adjust your numbers to reflect the track numbers.
Please make sure you build in a safety factor for all your cross weights, weight, heights etc. We do not want to disqualify anyone. We do not like to do that and we find no joy in doing it, but, if you want to run that close to the tech limits, that will be your choice and you may suffer the consequences.
Thank you for your cooperation. Now, Lets have Fun.

Demolition Derby Cancelled for June 1. Regular classes still running.
Due to a low number of entries in the Demolition Derby, the Derby will be cancelled on June 1st. All of our regular classes will still be running June 1st. That amounts to over 2 1/2 hours af racing excitement. Come and see our Late Models put the "Thunder in the Pines". Come see if our Thunder Cars get carried away again this week. Come see our entertaining Legends take to the track once again. Come see our Mini Stocks after our equalization measures take place this week. They should be Bumper to Bumper, Hub to Hub and Wheel to Wheel for the entire race.

50th Anniversary Opening Night a Big Success.
What a great evening for our first race of 2011. Finally the rain stayed away and gave us some good weather to start the rescheduled Opening Night. It was nice to see some new faces, some old drivers back with us, and some new drivers as well. It was a special treat for all of us to see Brian "Motor Mouth" Goudge back behind the microphone for 2011. Brian recieved a nice round of applause from all of the drivers at the drivers meeting. It took no time at all for Motor Mouth to get back in the swing of things and do what he does best. It was if he had not left at all. Brian provided us with great play by play action all night long.
The first heat winners were Brooke Cordick in the Four for Fun Class, Kyle Baker in the Mini Stock Class, Greg Ogilvie in the Thunder Class, Kevin Foisy in the Legends and Steve Munro in the Late Model Class.
The second heat winners were Brooke Cordick in the Four for Fun Class, Jen May in the Mini Stock Class, Todd Musker in the Thunder Class, Kevin Foisy in the Legends and Steve Munro in the Late Model Class.
The Feature winners were Malcolm MacDonald in the Four for Fun Class, Casey Cavanaugh in the Mini Stock Class, Todd Musker in the Thunder Class, a sweep for Kevin Foisy in the Legends and a sweep for Steve Munro in the Late Model Class.
The changes to the Mini Stock rules this year seemed to tighten things up in the class this year as we saw some tight racing in the field.
The Thunder Class saw even tighter racing between Greg Ogilvie and Mike Hennick as these two raced hard all night long and got into some banging in the feature, which continued even after the race and down the exit lane of the track.
Kevin Foisy was the dominant car in the Legends class last night as his winter racing schedule kept him rust free, and rewarded him with three wins last night. The #7 of Matt Haufe
Steve Munro held off a hard charging Justin Holtom in the second heat and in the fetaure to take the triple crown last night. A great start for Steve in a lighter field of Late Models with only 7 cars turning out for Opening Night. A nasty spill in the feature took out the #88 and # 08 which sent them both to the pits for the night. Both cars are expected back next week with others coming out as well.
There was a good turnout of Enduro cars who ended up with a shortened night due to time constraints.
The Nostalgia Room was opened to fans for the first time, and will be updated weekly, as we continue to get in new memorabilia.
Last but not least was the introduction of Thunder Cat, Capital City Speedway's new mascot for 2011. Thunder cat was introduced at intermission to the muisc of ACDC's Thunderstruck and flames out of our new flame projection system. Thunder Cat even tried to get into a race with the Legend Cars before he was black flagged by Todd Gow, the new Operator of CCS and Tim Dorning, the new Race Director.
What a great way to start the 50th Anniversary Season and we expect things to get better and better each week. Thanks to all of the fans who came out and shared our entertaining night of racing.
See you next week at the races.

Fan Comfort Hints
If you have not been before, or forget from last year, here are some helpful hints to make your night an enjoyable one.
1. No outside drinks or food are allowed inside the grandstand area. We do have a Canteen and Beer Garden for all of your thirst and hunger requirements.
2. I love the sound of the race cars as they go speeding by. Tender of ear, then you may want to bring ear protection. We do sell earplugs on site if you find it too loud. If you have never been before, the volume is not that loud and most fans do without.
3. The water we have on site is from a well and has a sulpher smell to it. When you use the washrooms, it is not a problem with the cleaniness of the washrooms or issues with the plumbing, it is just the sulpher from the water.
4. As the track is located outside of the City and in the open, it will be colder there than in town. It is very easy to throw in another sweater or jacket. It is much easier to go back to the car and get a blanket, or jacket than it is to do without.
5. Since this is opening night we do not know our mosquito count at this point. If you have some Off, or other bug repellant, you may want to throw that in too. Better safe than sorry.
6. We do not accept debit or credit cards on the premises. No ATM's on site....bring cash.
7. We do allow camera's. Bring yours and remember the moment.
8. You may not want to smile too much as your cheeks may be sore on Thursday.

The Black Limo Is Back........
If you haven't seen the black Limo in action, you don't know what you are missing. Come on out and see this Limo go 100 laps, or try to anyway, at Capital City Speedway. The last time out it used up all of its brakes. Imagine trying to get this thing slowed down 400 times. It is fun for all ages.
No Demolition Derby May 25th.
The demolition Derby scheduled for May 25th has been moved back a week and will run June 1. We will know by weeks end if we have enough participants to run as scheduled. Please check back for up to date news.

Sunny Weather predicted for Wednesday Night.
It looks like we might actually get our Season Opener in on Wednesday. With sunny skies predicted, finally, we will get to see what everyone has been doing over the long winter on their cars. Jessica Passinetti will be coming our in her new Thunder Car. Jeremy Coulter will be in his new chassis, along with a brand new motor to boot. Surely a night not to miss as we will get to see who has the winter rust on thier driving skills, and who starts off where the season ended.
It will be great to finally hear the "Thunder in the Pines" once again. Surely the highlight of the night will be having Motor Mouth back to make the calls all night long.
Bumper to Bumper, Hub to Hub, Wheel to Wheel, Pitter Patter, Lets Get at Her.

I forgot tho thank Bob and Ann Williams for coming out and painting on Saturday. They painted the 1st Pit Stand by themselves. Bob then retired the paint brush for the day, and picked up his steering wheel and turned a few laps just to make sure he is ready for Wednesday Night.

Thank You to Volunteers who came out today.
Special thanks go out to Al Dickie who once again stepped up to the plate and joined us all day as he single handily painted the entire concrete wall around the track by himself today. Thanks go out to the O'Toole Family who joined us once again to spend a good part of the day painting the stands. Jim Baker and Ryan Burghgraef were also on hand to help us get most of the stands painted. The Gow clan made up the balance as the track is starting to look ready for our new Opening Night May 25th.
Ed Crilly and Gary Matolsci worked in the tech shed getting it ready for Opening Night and setting it up for all the new Tech that will be conducted over the season.
Thanks to Scott for always being there to lend a hand, or tractor in this case.

Sunny Weather Coming !!!
Is it an end to the rain? Could it be possible! I think I can say now I know what it must be like to live in Britain. The long range forecast at this point says we will have a beautiful Wednesday Opening Night on May 25. I have posted only sunshine pictures this week to help get some sunny weather mojo started. I hope it helps, nothing much else has seemed to work so far.
Tonight I will pray to the Race Gods and see if that helps.
Tonight I will pray to the Race Gods and see if that helps.
Practice Day on Saturday
We will hold a practice on Saturday. The weatherman says it will be nice and sunny. What a beautiful day to do some painting. Cost to practice on Saturday will be $ 20.00 - Single car only, plus a minimum of 45 minutes of painting. No desire to paint thats ok to, we will need to change a number of boards in the stands. You can help there. No time or desire to work thats ok to - practice will cost $ 50.00.
Practice will start at 2:00 till dusk.

Saturday is Paint Day
This Saturday we would like to get some more of the painting done at the track. Last paint day, we had 3 volunteers outside of my family come out and help us. We will need more help to get it done before our New and Improved Opening Night Wednesday May 25th.
Renata always tells me that I try and do it all myself, and she is right. Together, lets make Capital City Speedway the best that it can be.
So bring down your paint pan, brush and roller and together we can get it done. If you don't have a roller, pan or brush, that's OK because I bought lots.

Due to the amount of rain we have had today and the risk of further showers today, and later tonight we will be cancelling the racing for tonight. We will reschedule Opening Night for May 25. Practice Cancelled
If you haven't already guessed, today';s practice has been cancelled due to rain.
Rain, Rain Go Away, Come back another day (in October.)
You get all types of rain - Road Rain, Rain Man,Singing in the rain, Rain at the Lake even Purple Rain. You must be over at least 35 to get that one. What you don't get is happy Racers, or Operators for that matter. It looks like we might be rained out tomorrow, but we will see what the morning will bring. The long range forecast doesn't look all that optimistic for our Season Opener at this point either. We can only hope that Mother Nature runs out and gives us a break for the rest of the summer. I do know this, after the rains stop, usually there is a rainbow somewhere. Lets hope it is over the Speedway and we get it all done with early in the season. If anybody finds a Leprechaun at the track with a pot of gold - its mine, minus a finders fee of 10%.
We will be at the track tomorrow regardless, so if it is clear, come on out and do some laps. We will watch the forecast for Opening Night. If Opening Night is rained out the enduro will be rescheduled. The rescheduled date will be June 1. If we do not get sufficient derby cars for May 25th, it will take place then. Stay tuned for the next rain report.

Demolition Derby Rules and Entries.
All Demolition Derby entries must pre register for the first derby May 25th. Before we can announce that in fact we will be having one, we need to know if we are going to have a show or not. The entry fee for the debies will be $ 20.00. A maximum car limit will be enforced to keep the show within our time limits. The purse will be dependant on the number of entries.
Rules will be posted early next week. The Cole note version - strip it and crash it.
If you are thinking about competing in the Demolition Derby Series, please let us know. The event will be cancelled for low turnout of vehicles.

Capital City Speedway comes alive once more.
Being a race fan, it was a nice to see, and hear on Saturday as 20 cars took to the track once again. It is always a pleasure to see the hard work some teams have put in their race programs with new paint and bodies. One such car was the Passinetti Thunder Car. A throw back Malibu body was put on and looks very sharp. Chris MacDonald's 03 Mini Stock looks great as well. Another car, the Dave Woods owned Thunder car, made an appearance as well and looked very sharp. It was great to see that car back after a lengthy absence. The 44 Late Model was sporting a new look and appeared to be running well at practice.
Join us Wednesday May 11 for our open house. Come on in and see for yourself some of the changes on and off the track as we get ready for May 18th. Start Time 5:00 to 10:00 pm.

Renovations continue.....
I would like to thank Debra O'Toole and her family who came out and helped us paint the front grandstand along with my family.
We are happy to announce that Debra O'Toole has agreed to become the new barbecue chef for the pit area.
We have started working on the look of the front entrance to make it look more appealing. The flower boxes are now installed along the tower building wall and will make it look much nicer on your stroll to the Nostalgia Room. New crushed stone has been laid in front of the canteen and along the walkway to the Nostalgia Room. The Nostalgia Room ceilings, walls and floor were painted today as we strive to get this ready for opening night.
We are looking for Perennial donations so we can fill up these new boxes and give the grounds a little bit of colour. The boxes are located in full sun, so they need to be full sun perennials. So when you are cleaning up your garden and are cutting back a few, please bring them to the track.

Sign Up and Practice Day met with Sunshine
Lets hope this is a sign of things to come. Our first full day at the track was met with warm, sunny weather. We had 35 cars sign up on Saturday for the 2011 Season, and about 20 cars out practicing to get their cars ready for May 18th.
Our next practice day is Wednesday May 11th and then again on Saturday May 14th. On both of these days you will be able to purchase your memberships for the new season.

Mini Stock Dyno Day a Success.
Saturday's Mini Stock Dyno day was a success with all cars going through very fast and efficiently. For those who did not make this Dyno day will be required to visit Lentech Motorsports and have their car dynoed prior to Opening Night May 18th. The cost will be $ 100.00
CCS feels this is a great first step in solving some of the issues with this class.
