Dana Aikins, our 2013 Sportsman Modified Champion, has stepped back into the asphalt circle that is Capital City Speedway for 2014. Dana was one of our biggest supporters in the Sportsman class last year, and when we said we were doing it again in 2014, Dana simply said " I will see you again in 2014". I met Dana for the first time last year, and all I can say is I wish I had more just like him. He has a real passion for the sport, and when we said we were going to add the Sportsman class in 2013, he stated he would be here for the series and asked me how he could help make it work. I am looking forward to having Dana back in 2014 and watching him try to make it two in a row. One thing I do know is that Dana will have to bring his "A" game this year as there are a number of Sportsman drivers coming with checkered flags in their plans for 2014. This class will be one to watch this year as the car counts will grow, as well as the competitiveness of the entire field.

Driver Info:
Dana is
an architectural / structural designer and project manager for an architectural,
engineering, and land surveying company located in Watertown, NY. Dana’s father,
Larry Aikins, competed at several dirt tracks in central New York in the late
1960’s. Their entire family grew up around dirt track racing. As a child Dana
often traveled to the local dirt track with his father, one of his uncles, or
anyone else who might be going. Most Sundays were spent tagging alone with and
watching his cousin, Bret Belden win at the Utica-Rome Speedway.
Dana
began racing, dirt circle track, in the Street Stock division at Can-Am Speedway
in LaFargville, NY in 2001. In 2004 he ventured to the Brockville Ontario
Speedway, where he one in his first appearance, and went on to win 4 races and
the Track Championship that year. Dana continued to compete in the Street Stock
division throughout all of New York State, Ontario, and Quebec, competing up to
five nights a week for several seasons. In the Street Stock division he compiled
23 feature wins and one track championship, as well as numerous top five
finishes in features and point championships, by the end of
2008.
Dana
moved to the Sportsman Modified division in 2009. In the sportsman division he
has regularly competed two to three nights per week throughout New York and
Ontario, winning three feature races and one series championship in 2010, and
the track championship at Capital City Speedway in 2013 along. Dana has competed
at 17 dirt tracks and 3 asphalt tracks. His most memorable wins would be have
been the first ever win at Brockville Ontario Speedway in 2004, 100 lap Street
Stock “King of the Hill” race at Ransomville Speedway in 2005, competing at the
“Steel Palace” Oswego Speedway in a sportsman modified in 2012, and the final
win with Owner/Sponsor/Uncle Glen A. Gould at Mohawk International Speedway in
2012.
Away from
the track Dana enjoys hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and three
children Norah, Devin, and Ryan, as well as almost any form of racing. This
year, 2014, will make the 14th consecutive year
that Dana, and the Aikins Racing team will compete on the dirt/asphalt circuit,
expect to see them in action at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, and Capital
City Speedway.
