Go Karts back at CCS in 2012

Frank Dinardo of Dinardo's Karting, and Dinardo's Skis and Wheels, has come on board as the Class Sponsor for the addition of a 5 night Go Kart series which will be run as part of our Wednesday Night schedule. With the addition of the paving in corners 2 and 4 for the Drifting, it has become a great track layout for the Karts as well. One of my concerns about having the Karts back was the speed that was obtained before, when the Karts were there. Now that we have the new 1/2 moons coming out of the corners, we are able to reduce the speeds of the Karts, as well as giving them more of road course style track. The track will still be a fast one, but it will be a lot safer than before. Frank Dinardo is looking forward to getting his Kart on the track and giving the new course a test drive. If you saw the Karts run before, you know that they put on a great show and will be a great addition to our Wednesday Night Show.

The Kart dates are May 30th, June 6th, June 27th, July 25th and August 29th.

If you, or your children are interesetd in getting into Karting, please give Frank Dinardo a call at 613-596-0007 or email him at info@dinardoskis.com. You can visit their website at www.dinardokarting.com

Thanks go to some volunteers - Looking for some new ones

Thanks go out to Sandy Madore, Mackenzie Gow and Mr. Baker for helping me out last weekend remove the rumble strips from the track. Thanks go out to Sean Kennedy for bringing down his dump truck today and getting rid of the piles of dirt left over from the excavation for the half moons.

I am looking for some new volunteers for next weekend to help start the painting process of the track. We are expecting some great weather next weekend and it should be a great couple of days to get some paint down. I will also require help installing new plywood down the back stretch for our new Advertisers signage.  We are also hoping to clean up the area at the end of the drag strip, so we can continue getting the Drag Strip ready for use.

We should be down at the track Saturday around 10:00 and 10:30 on Sunday. See you then.

What else is strong this year, is the deals to be had at Calabogie Marine and Sports.

Capital City Speedway back on Rogers TV?

Early discussions are under way about having Rogers TV back once again to film one, or more of our Stock Car Shows. The tentative date we are looking at now is for May 23rd, Opening Night. I will keep you apprised of the details as we move forward in our discussions.

Help clean on Saturday?

I will be down at the track tomorrow from 10:30 til 5 working on cleaning up the drag strip. Sandi Madore will be down as well cleaning up the old rumble strips and we could use a hand if you don't have any plans. Come on out and see how the track is coming along. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

CP Tire "Lays Down Some Rubber" for CCS

CP Tire, owned by Wayne and Paul Luciano, has joined CCS as one of its first advertisers for the drag strip. Paul is a drag racer at heart and was one of the first people we talked to when it was announced we would be opening the drag strip this year. Paul had made it quite clear early on, if we were going to do it right he wanted to be a part of it. Paul and I met down at the track and shared our vision for the drag strip and it met with his expectations of what the drag strip should be. Paul is looking forward to bringing out his Camaro and laying down some rubber this year. We would like to thank CP Tire for helping bring the drag strip alive for 2012. You can show your appreciation to CP Tire as well and give them a call the next time you are looking for tires. But, CP Tire does more than just tires, they also specialize in Brakes, Alignments, Cooling Systems, Exhaust Systems, and Krown Rust Proofing. CP Tire also carries a large selection of Performance and Accessory products. If you are looking to add performance to your ride, or just simply dress it up, CP Tire has just what you want, and they can install it too.

No more Rumbling about the Rumbles

Over the last 2 years, if you were on the track at some point you probably have had a run in with the rumble strips. When I first saw the rumble strips after the re paving of the track, I was shocked to see the size of them. They were about 4 inches high and my Legend Car is 3 3/4 off the ground. I knew it was going to be ugly when a Legend car went into them, and it was only a matter of time before someone was going to get mixed up with them. I think the final tally was Rumble Strips 15 Legends 0. As the Drifting grew last year, it was made very clear from the Drifters, who have some nice nose pieces on their cars, that they were not thrilled by the size of them either. Taking all of that into account, the rumble strips did more damage than they were worth, and the fact that all of the other tracks around do not have rumble strips, it was decided to bring them down.

For the Stock Car guys, we will bring you up to speed later about the penalties for passing below the yellow line. I will let you know as soon as I make them up.

Construction continues at CCS....

Last year I made a promise to our Drift community. That promise was if they supported us we would do what we could to make CCS more Drift friendly, and a little more technical. That translates into having more fun, and fun is what Motor Sports should be about. I am happy to say that the Drift additions are now complete and waiting for pavement. I would like to thank Trevor Hartwick of Hot Equipment Rentals for helping us out with the excavation work and our new friend, Rick Craig of National Paving. Rick and his friend Andy are new to CCS and Drifting, but their Drift cars are almost complete and will join us for our Saturday Night Drift events. Rick has donated his time and equipment to pave the additions to the track and for that we are thankful. Please remember National Paving and Hot Equipment Rentals when you are in the need of this type of service. ( See Drag Strip news below.)

To be called a Motor Sports Facility you need to cater to more than Stock Car Racing and Drifting. That is why we  will be re-opening the Drag Strip this summer. To get the Drag Strip ready will require time, energy and money, but we need to get it right to make it work. We are hoping that work will begin this weekend down at the end of the strip. The start for the Drag strip will be down by Speedway Road and will run back into the oval, so work will begin down there first. In talking with a number of Drag  guys their concern was for a burnout box and launch box. We are happy to say that the construction of that box should start this week or early next. Our goal at this point is to construct a 60 foot launch box to start with, and hopefully extend that further next year. As with any expenditures at the track, future construction and development of the strip will depend on the success of it this year. So if you are a drag guy or girl, and want to see the Drag Strip expand and continue for many years to come , please help support it this year. We still are looking for Corporate advertisers for the Drag Strip, and if you are interested in doing so, please call the track office at 613-723-7223

New look for the #25 Thunder Car

We are pleased to announce that the # 25 Thunder Car  driven by Tim Illingworth will be back for the 2012 season.  They will be coming out this year with a new body and representing a new manufacturer this year. The #25 will be sporting a new 2011 Dodge Challenger body. The # 25 Team has just signed on Town and Country Chrysler located in Smith Falls as a sponsor of that vehicle for the 2012 season. The Monte Carlo body that was on that vehicle had to be changed to obviously a Dodge one, and a nicer body they could not have picked.

Here is a glimpse of that body style, and we can hardly wait to see that car freshly painted, numbered and lettered up by Dave Waite of Sign Design.

Go Dodge!!!

New Thunder Car Bodies Coming

We have heard from two different teams about putting on new bodies on their cars. The interesting thing is we could have somewhat of a battle for fan support this year. For the first time in a number of years, one of these teams will have a Dodge body. I will not say anymore about it for now, but it will be a Challenge not to. I am proud to say I am a Dodge man, so I know where my loyalties would lie. I say "would" because as Promoter I cannot play favorites, but lets just say I will have a smile on my face when that Dodge does well.

We will update you on those cars when we have more information to pass along.

Another "Sproule" gets set to race at CCS

Sarah Sproule, the daughter of the late CCS driver, Ken Sproule, will be making her debut this year in a new Four for Fun Car  with the help of our good friends, AD Motor Sports. Ken had said in the past that he wanted to see his daughter in a car at CCS and with the help of a number of individuals, that will happen in 2012. Sarah has been helping out on the assembly of her new car as told to me by Al Dickie. Al has made it quite clear to Sarah that she has to put the time in as well to make it ready for Opening Night. Here is a glimpse of that process.

We look forward to seeing a Sproule back on the track in 2012. Thanks to all of those people that have put the time, money and energy into making this happen. CCS will donate Free Track time to Sarah so she can get some track time in before Opening Night.
