Frisby Tire "Rolls Again " in 2011

We are happy to have Frisby Tire back again this year as an advertiser at the track. Frisby has been a supporter of this track for many years. I would like to thank Don Frisby for making that happen once again in 2011. I have purchased tires many times from Frisby Tire in the past, and will do so again very soon. I need to get a new set of summer tires now that it seems we may actually be over winter. So if you need a new set of summer tires as well, please stop in at one of their many locations and let them make it easy for you.

But wait, do you know that Frisby Tire does more than tires. Frisby Tire offers a full range of maintenance and automotive service work  to all makes and models. With summer coming, stop in and get that Air Conditioning system checked before it is too late. Brakes squealing? Stop in to have them looked at before you cannot stop in.

Founded in 1920, Frisby has been offering "Service that Satisfies" for over 90 years. Let them take care of you today.

Security Connection "Breaks In" for 2011

A security system for your home is like a roll cage in a race car, you don't  need it most of the time, but when you do need it, it's nice to know that it is there. Chris MacDonald, the President of Security Connection, spoke to me shortly after we took over the track and said he wanted to be an advertiser this year at the track. Chris currently owns and drives a Mini Stock car at the track, and sponsors other cars as well. Chris wanted his company represented this year on a Corporate level and after our discussions we ended up buying his product and monitoring services. Chris is almost finished installing the new Alarm System at the track. Give Chris MacDonald  a call and see how Security Connection can protect you and your family. Chris tells us about his company, Security Connection.

Security Connection has been supplying alarm systems to homes & businesses in the greater Ottawa area for more than a decade. They are very proud of their reputation which is based on offering the most modern security technologies and providing both professional & personal customer service. Security Connection sells, installs & services a variety of burglary & fire detection systems as well as medical emergency pendants and more. If your home or business requires a new security system installed or if you're not satisfied with the price or quality of service you are currently receiving, you need to contact Security Connection for a FREE security assessment.
Security Connection is the official security & alarm systems company of Capital City Speedway, as well as a proud sponsor of the #56 thunder car, #03 mini-stock and #13 & #80 4-fun race cars.

Buster's Bar and Grill back for 2011

Capital City Speedway is pleased to have Buster's Bar and Grill back on board for 2011. Buster's will not be back in the canteen this year, but still see the value in being associated with CCS. All of our drivers meetings were held there and the service and quality was top notch. I would like to thank Louise and Steve for all of their help with our meetings. So if you are looking for a great place to eat, please support Buster's Bar and Grill.

Buster's will be having a car show series at each of their locations this summer. The details are as follows:

CCS will be part of the Thursday Night Charity Cruise Nights at the Carling Ave location. Whether it is a chance to win tickets, or car displays, CCS will be represented.
For our friends in the east, stop in and say hello at their Rockland location with their car show series running Tuesday Nights.

Concrete Pads Anyone?

Dave Riopelle is looking at installing concrete pads at the track. The cost is yet to be determined, but will be cheaper per pad if we have a number of them to do. If you are interested in buying a concrete pad for your car for 2011, please let me know and we can put a price together for you. From Capital City's standpoint ( under the direction of Todd Gow ), it is quite simple, you buy it and it is yours for as long as you, or I am at the track. The pad size is open for discussion.

Looking for pictures of Bob McCreadie

I received a request for some pictures from Bob Hatcher, via Brian. If you can help please let me know.

Hello Brian,

I've been involved in oval trac racing since 1979 having built cars and
crewed them at a 1/3 mile paved oval in Northeast Pennsylvania called
Mountain Speedway. Back in 1980, the track was called The New Evergreen
Speedway and Jimmy Spencer's family ran it. My question concerns Watertown
New York's Barefoot Bob McCreadie who someone just told me had run at
Capitol back in those days as well as on the DIRT circuit with his #9 car.
In August of 80 Bob came down to Evergreen with a low slung pavement #1
Chevette bodied Modified called The Price Brother's Special and wooped up on
our entire field not once that night but twice. Is your track the place he
ran and do you know anyone thant might have any photos of this #1 car?

I am including a photo of Bob in victory lane in August of 80 when he won
the CAM 2 ROC qualifier at Evergreen

Also here is a link to my Facebook page on the New Evergreen Speedway in St
Johns, PA.

Thanks,

Bob Hatcher

Practice Schedule, Memberships and Work Days

The scheduled practice sessions we have now are as follows:

May 7th - 11:00 to 5:00 pm.
May 11th - Practice Race Night - 5 to 10:00
May 14th - 11:00 to 5:00 pm.

On all of these days we will have the ambulance and tow trucks on site to accommodate more than one car on the track at a time. The cost for the Saturday practices will be $ 30.00 and for the 11th will be $ 25.00. We are looking at Sunday's as a rain date for the Saturday practice's. If you purchase the "Key" program this year, these practice times and costs will be included in the charge for that.

Our membership sign up day will be held on May 7th at the track (weather permitting ) The annual cost for the membership this year will be $ 125.00 HST included.

Around this time every year, is time to spruce up the track, and time to freshen up the paint. We will be asking everyone to donate a few hours over the next few weeks to get this done. We are hoping that Mother Nature will cooperate with some warm and dry weather to get this done. I will keep everyone updated over the next couple of weeks to see if we are going to get some help from her. She didn't help us much last year, so she owes us. I would appreciate any and all the time you can give to help us get this done.

Nostaglia Room Construction Underway

We have started to work on the Nostalgia Room today to get this ready for opening night. The room was wired by one of our new sponsors, Electric Solutions, on Monday. Another one of our new sponsors, Security Connection, pre wired our new alarm sytem on Monday as well. I was down there today working on it and Dan from Gloucester Towing stopped by and ended up giving me a hand installing the ceiling. Dan and I will be back tomorrow to hopefully finish up the installation of the ceiling panels, and start on the walls.

As always, we are still looking for donations of memorabilia for the room. If you have raced there at some point over the last 50 years, keep your name alive and remembered at CCS by donating something to the room. A picture, old trophy, program, schedule or old film footage. If you have something to donate please call the office at 613-723-7223 or email us at todd@gowproperties.ca.

Chad Windsor preparing to repeat in 2011

Chad Windsor was our first rental of the year as he gears up for 2011. Chad and Radar were out today to put their car through a few paces, and I have to say it was nice to rear the roar of a Legend car running around the track. Needless to say, I am like everyone else who misses the sound of stock cars over the long winter. Chad and Radar have had a little taste so far and they write;

April 16th saw us travel to Loudon NH to race a Maclean Motorsports prepared legend car at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. We qualified 3rd for the first heat race and finished 2nd. This would start us 3rd for the feature event. We ran 2nd for most of the caution filled race, with 8 laps to go in the 25 lap main event we got spun out on a re start in front of the whole field. Everyone got around us and I had to start 24th for the final shootout to the checkered flag. We came through the field of cars on a mission, splitting cars going three wide to come across the line in 3rd.
Check out our new website www.chadwindsor.com for more results and news through out the season.

We look forward to watching Chad every Wednesday Night at CCS trying to re-capture the Legends Championship in 2011.

West Carleton Minor Hockey Association Banquet

Capital City Speedway was out last night with a car display at the West Carleton Minor Hockey Association Banquet. I would like to thank Sherry Malloy, President, for having us out, and Jennifer James, Banquet Coordinator, for all her help last night.

CCS provided free tickets to the track to all hockey players, coaches, trainers and the Executive. The car display was a huge hit with all the kids, and even some of the adults. So much so, I cannot move today because I am not used to doing 1000 squats in a night putting on and off steering wheels. I would like to say thank you again to Al Dickie for bringing out his Late Model for us. Our next stop on the hockey train will be the Ottawa East Minor Hockey Association Banquet on April 30.

Mini Stock Dyno Day Set for May 7th.

It is now official, the Mini Stock Dyno Day will be May 7, 2011. We will have  some practice days scheduled before this date, so you  have an opportunity to try different things with your motor, and ECU. Remember, you will want your car at its best for Dyno day. If you end up being tech'd after your Dyno day, and your horsepower has increased by more than 5% from your numbers from May 7, you will be disqualified and lose all points up to that day.

Please note, we are starting at 9:00 am but you are required to set up an appointment for your time slot. Each car takes about 20 minutes on the dyno, and then another 15 minutes for tech and weighing. That is if everything goes well and we are on time. Appointments are made because if we do 20 cars on this day, it will take about 7 hours to get everyone through. This way you will not be waiting around for a few hours, and can still enjoy most of your day doing something else.

"Up to Speed"

As we get closer to opening night, we are hearing the rumours on new cars coming out in 2011. One such rumour that was relayed to me again today, was about 2 new Thunder cars coming out of Quebec. With the demise of Edelweiss, the rumour is a couple of the thunder cars there will be trying asphalt this season. I will let you know when I get confirmation and the details from these drivers.

If everything goes as well as the rumour mill says, Capital City Speedway will see the most Late Models on a weekly basis than it has seen for decades. I must say that I am  giddy writing this.  To get the opportunity to see more than 12 late Models on the track each and every week is truly a treat. This year "The Thunder in the Pines" will be back and it will be a show you will not want to miss.

If we look at overall car counts, Capital City Speedway in 2011, will field the most cars each week than has ever been seen before. That says alot about the love of stock car racing in Ottawa. I want everyone to know that this year, Capital City Speedway will offer the best entertainment value around.

We are pleased with the progress of the Four for Fun class so far. When I took over CCS, it was important to me to continue this class as it gives people a great place to start. One such person will be Connor Gow. If you remember, Connor drove the Bandolero last year and unfortunately after his most recent growth spurt, has now outgrown it. We have bought him a car and he will be practising until he gets comfortable with it, and up to speed with the class. When that happens he will be out every race night.

Rumour has it that there will be a new Dawg at Capital City Speedway this year. Stay tuned for more details.

I was at the track on Tuesday and am I happy to report that all the snow is off the track. The pits and parking lot still had some water but I am sure it is close to being gone. Rain slated for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, so a pretty good chance it will all fill up again. We are looking at starting practice sessions in the next couple of weeks so, if you car isn't finished yet, you had better get a move on.

Painting and Landscaping are expected to start in the next few weeks as well. I will make an announcement when we are ready to go and would ask everyone to come out and give us a hand. The more volunteers we have, the less work we each will have to do.

Four for Fun Meeting

We will be having a four for fun meeting April 20th at Busters Bar and Grill located in the Lincoln Heights Mall. The meeting will start at 7:00

Ottawa Sun is back on board for 2011.

Capital City Speedway is pleased to announce that the Ottawa Sun will be our newspaper advertiser for 2011. On the home page, is a copy of our first ad which will start running in early May. Each and every week we will have a new ad which will be full colour and will be a 1/4 page ad. It is expected that we will have our Championship Points Race results printed weekly in the Sun. It is time that Capital City Speedway raise the bar and be counted as a professional sports organization in this city. Together, with the Ottawa Sun we intend to make this happen.

It's all about Friends, Family, Fans and Fun.

I have had the opportunity to review a lot of photo's from Capital City Speedway, speak with fans and drivers from over 50 years ago, and up to and including just last year. I was down at the Pakenham Home Show again today, and spoke to a gentleman that hasn't been to the track in forty years. He was reminiscing about the great times he and his friends had going to the track back in the day. I reminded him that the tradition carries on and he should come back to visit and relive once again the fun he had at CCS so many years ago. He looked at me and said "you know your are right", and told me he will come back this year after a 40 year absence.

A number of people I spoke to today had much the same story to tell, that it had been years since coming to the track. Not once, did I speak to someone that did not have fond memories of coming to the track. I told them that the fun and good times will once again be back at CCS  for 2011, and now was the time to come back and see us. Hopefully, this will be the start to rebuilding what once was the place to be on a Wednesday Night in Ottawa.

I hope all of our friends, family and fans come out once again to enjoy a warm, summer Wednesday Night, at the place where the cars put "The Thunder in the Pines".

I hope to see all of you, at the races.

Snow is slowly leaving CCS

I was on the track on Wednesday seeing how much snow was left, and it is slowly melting away. The back stretch is completely open with snow remaining only on the front straight. Unfortunately it is in shade for most of the day and is still over a foot deep. With warm weather forecast for the weekend we expect to see a dramatic drop in the snow level. The infield is bare of snow and unfortuantely grass too.

Nostalgia Room Update

We have cleared out the Nostalgia Room and construction will begin shortly on it as well. I would like to remind everyone that we are still looking for donations of memorabilia for the room. Do you have that old trophy in a box in the basement? We want it. Do you have that old helmet from the 60's hung on a nail in the shed? We want it. Have an old pit pass, membership card, old program, old ticket? We want it.

I am still looking for old film footage from years gone by, so please dig out the old box of VHS tapes and give us a call. If you have an old Beta tape, well I don't know if we can get that transferred, but we sure will try.

The quality of this Nostalgia Room is only limited by the quantity of items we receive. This is a great opportunity for others to celebrate and enjoy your participation in the World's best sport. Stock Car Racing.

With Spring in the air, it is a great time to clean out the basement or storage room and send it to us. Please send us the Stock Car Memorabilia only.

Construction begins at CCS

It is my belief that for Capital City Speedway to become truly successful, we must raise the professionlism of the track in a number of different area's. On such area is the Corporate Suites. We have gutted two of the suites and will make two new ones with adjoining capabilities for larger Corporate Suite requirements. The new suites will have new walls, ceilings and lights. To keep our customers comfortable, we have new adjustable stools coming. We have our race memorabilia already framed and waiting for its new home. We will keep you updated on the progress and will have these suites ready for Opening Night.

CCS at Pakenham Home Show

Capital City Speedway is represented this weekend at the Pakenham Home Show. As part of our ongoing committment to raise the awareness of the track, we will be here for the weekend talking to old fans and hopefully creating new ones. We had a good turnout tonight and expect to talk to even more people tomorrow and Sunday. I talked to one gentleman today who hasn't been to the track in over 40 years. Hopefully after our talk today, he will come back out to see what's new at Capital City Speedway.

Stittsville Trailers back as Mini Stock Class Sponsor

Capital City Speedway is pleased to announce that Stittsville Trailers is back as the Mini Stock Class Sponsor for 2011. Please give them a call if you are looking for that new car trailer, perhaps a new cargo trailer or just a new trailer hitch. Orville and the crew will fix you up with whatever size or style of trailer you are looking for. They can be reached at 613-836-5555

Drummond's Gas back as Late Model Class Sponsor

Capital City Speedway is pleased to have Drummond's Fuels back on board as the Late Model Class Sponsor for 2011. Drummond's Gas will have the gas truck at the track every week and will be supplying Petro Canada Gold and Racing fuel. So please support them by buying your gas at the track, and the next time you drive by a Drummond's Gas Bar make sure you stop and fill up.
