Thanks go out to Wally Lynch, Jessica and Julio Pasinetti, Al Dickie and Thunder Cat for making our participation in Ottawa's Touch a Truck a huge success. The gates opened at 10:00 am and the traffic never stopped all day for us at Capital City Speedway. We had several hundred kids come out and get in our race cars today and it was a battle between the fire trucks and us to see who was the most popular attraction. Regardless who won, it was all for a good cause and we all had fun promoting CCS. It was a beautiful day and the atmosphere was great, and in the end we put a number of smiles on a whole lot of kids faces today. Hopefully, we will see some new families come out this year along with a few new drivers in about 10 years or so.

The Legends saw Matt Haufe take the first heat and Kevin Foisy take the second heat and the feature win.

The revitalized field of Thunder cars put on a nice race with the larger field of cars this week. The battle ended up being Greg Ogilvie and new comer Casey Cavanagh. Casey won the first heat and Greg taking the second. Casey took his first checkered flag in the Thunder division.
The Vintage Modifieds were down in numbers due to a big show in Brockville, but the racing was still exciting. Denzil Billings and Paul Billings dueled it out all night long with Denzil taking the feature win by about two feet. Watch for this battle to continue all season long.
The four for fun class saw Andrew Thompson get back into the winners circle with his first win of the season. Pops MacDonald and Mike Atwill took home the heat wins.
Week 2 saw some new heat winners and mostly new feature winners as well. The points battles are tight now with 2 points separating most of the top three cars in each class. Join us next Wednesday Night to see who comes out on top.
I hope to see you at the races.

" Up to Speed "
Opening Night for 2014 saw some great racing through all of the classes on hand.
The Thunder class saw some opening night problems as the car count dropped as we went through the night. The new truck of Mr. Leblond saw some mechanical issues from the get go and didn't make the first heat. Neil Leblond made it to the feature but a blown clutch which happened earlier in the night took the green flag and headed into the pits. Neil came out to get last place points and keep him in the hunt for the 2014 championship. Chris MacDonald had issues as well which kept him from the feature. Keith Riddell had master cylinder issues which kept him from competing all night and Bob Williams had brake issues that were not fixed in time to make it to the track. In the feature race of the night Mike Hennick took the lead early, but his car looked lose all night long and it didn't take too long for past Thunder Champion Greg Ogilvie to catch him and win his first feature of 2014. Thunder car rookie Casey Cavanagh had a great showing in his first Thunder car race posting the first heat race win and finishing second in the feature. Look for more from Casey as the year goes along. Look for a much bigger Thunder Car field this week.
Pops MacDonald took home his first feature win of 2014 after a good battle with the Mike Atwell in the Four for Fun Class. Look for some new cars coming over the next few weeks.
Late Model action saw three winners last night with Sean Kennedy taking the first heat, Steve Munro taking the second and Justin Holtom winning the feature race. Sometimes being lucky is all you need to win a race and that was the case on Wednesday Night. Ken Baird was leading the race with Steve Munro all over him. The two lead cars ended up spinning with Tim Kirby right behind, and all three ended up to the back of the pack for the green white checkered. Justin moved up from fourth to take the green on the restart and held off a hard charging Sean Kennedy to take the win.
Mini Stock saw a good car count and some exciting racing all night long. Kyler Baker and his little Honda that could took the lead in the feature and never gave it up to a close second # 12 car of Jason Moss. The two were close all night long and are currently tied for 1st place in points.
Legends saw the return of Kevin Foisy and his triple crown wins for the night. Matt Haufe and Brian Saunders never let him get away from them but in the end it was Kevin Foisy for the win. Kyle Cybinski showed well with his first run at CCS. Look for another Legend coming out this week with Rookie Charlotte Lalonde behind the wheel.
This Wednesday watch all of the exciting racing action at CCS and our first visit by the Vintage Modifieds. It will be a great show.
I hope to see you at the races.

Wes Wallin Memorial and Fundraiser this Wednesday.
To say we were all shocked by the events of last Wednesday would be an understatement. Wes Wallin a soft spoken, and gentle man passed away as a a result of a health issue during our 100 lap enduro race. Wes had been one of our biggest Enduro fans and drivers along with his sons Casey and Jamie. Jamie and Wes shared the driving duties on their # 71 Enduro car and have been doing so for years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Wes Wallin. I know he will be missed.
Wes was part of the racing family at Capital City Speedway, and we will hold a memorial for him this coming Wednesday. Anytime there has been an unexpected passing of a family member, there are some immediate costs which need to be taken care of. Capital City Speedway will be accepting donations on Wednesday that will be passed along to the family.

Opening Night Tonight
It has been a long winter and finally its time to go back racing. Well tonight is that night. It looks like Mother Nature will cooperate with us tonight and look forward to a great night of racing. Come on out and cheer on your favorite driver or root for one of our new drivers.
Some new things are in store for the Four for Fun class this year compliments of To Be Racing. Malcolm MacDonald and Joann Blais, the drivers of the # 80 and # 81 Four For Fun cars, have put up over $ 2,000. in payouts for the class over the season. They love racing and the Four for Fun class and want to see it continue and prosper and have backed that up with this big donation to the track. Four for Fun will pay out back to sixth spot this year. The payout is as follows: $ 50.00 - $ 35.00 - Pit Pass - $ 20.00 - $ 15.00 - $ 10.00. Other than the pit pass this will all be funded personally by them. I was speechless concerning their donation and the amount they put in themselves, but all I can say is " Thank You ". If you have ever thought about getting into racing, then think about our Four For Fun class. It is an inexpensive way of getting into racing and trying it to see if it is for you or not.
Rideau Auctions has kindly donated a new adult bike to be given away tonight. Hunter McCaig has stepped up again this year as he kept bringing us bikes last year as well. Rideau Auctions is located in Winchester and has a public auto auction the 3rd Saturday every month.
Our thoughts go out to Derek and Sarah Horsley today as we hope they get better and get back racing. Derek and Sarah we the unfortunate ones to be involved in the accident on the Queensway yesterday and were hit by a big truck. Sarah was in surgery yesterday and Derek fared better but is still banged up. Sarah moved up from Four For Fun this year into Casey Cavanaugh's mini stock and was really looking forward to running for the Rookie of the Year. Derek was looking forward to running his Late Model after a rebuilding year. Kyle Chartrand has stepped up and will be doing double duty tonight in his mini stock and Derek's Late Model.
It will be a nice night tonight so come on out and see what Capital City Speedway has to offer.

Protective Plumbing
Program
While
cities and municipalities work relentlessly to clean and inspect sewer main
lines, it is still possible for a sewer main to plug allowing water and sewage
to flow into the dwellings it serves. Help is here! By installing the award winning
"Mainline Fullport Backwater Valve" (sometimes referred to as a
"Backflow Preventer") in the main line to the sewer, property owners
reduce their exposure of such an incident to almost nothing.
Your
home or building may be susceptible to sewage backups if the lowest drain is
less than 24" above the nearest upstream manhole. Most building codes require owners to install
a backflow prevention valve to minimize the chance of flooding at properties
with drains that meet the specification mentioned above.
Who is eligible for the
grant program?
You
may be eligible for a grant to offset the cost of installing protective
plumbing if:
•you are a homeowner
living within the boundaries of the City of Ottawa; and
•your property taxes
have been paid; and
•you have experienced
a basement or cellar backup, or
•live in an area that
has experienced basement or cellar backups, and
•the backups are:
◦caused by the surcharging of City sewers; and
◦can be verified through the City or Insurance
Company records
The
City of Ottawa’s Residential Protective Plumbing Program provides consultation
and grant assistance services to property owners who have experienced a backup
of water or sewage in their basement. This can be caused by the overloading or
blockage of city sewers, or those who live in an area that is at risk.

The program can assist you to determine what is needed to prevent a future backup in your home if you: previously had a backup caused by surcharging of the city sewer system; or live in a location that is at risk of backups caused by surcharging of city sewers.
The protective plumbing evaluation is free and there is no cost to apply to the program. You may also be eligible for a grant to offset the cost of installing protective plumbing in your home.
